What's the story

Filmmaker Priyadarshan is reuniting with actor Pankaj Tripathi for a new comedy film, reported Mid-day. The project marks their first collaboration in over 15 years since Aakrosh (2010). In the upcoming untitled film, Tripathi will play a lovable comic character. The movie is set to go on floors in May 2026 and will be an all-out comedy like Hungama or Hera Pheri, said Priyadarshan.

Director's statement

Priyadarshan praised Tripathi's acting skills

Priyadarshan praised Tripathi's acting skills, calling him "one of the finest actors we have today." He added, "It will be a pleasure working with him again. I am currently writing the story, and once that is finalized, I will approach the other two actors." The director recently completed shooting for Haiwaan, starring Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan.

Director's schedule

Priyadarshan's upcoming projects and plans

Priyadarshan has two releases scheduled for 2026: Bhooth Bangla, a supernatural thriller with Kumar, Tabu, and Wamiqa Gabbi; and the action thriller Haiwaan. He plans to start shooting for the Tripathi-starrer after these films release. "It's refreshing to write a comedy after so many years, as I recently helmed an action movie and a psychological thriller," he said.

Director's clarification

Priyadarshan's involvement in 'Bhagam Bhag 2' clarified

There were recently rumors of a sequel to Priyadarshan's hit comedy Bhagam Bhag (2006), with Kumar and Akshaye Khanna rumored to star. However, the director clarified that he is not a part of it. "My next movie [to be shot in 2026] is the Pankaj Tripathi-starrer," he said. Reports suggest that Raaj Shaandilyaa, known for the Dream Girl franchise, will direct Bhagam Bhag 2.
