What's the story

Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh has warned the Indian Motion Picture Producers's Association (IMPPA) of legal action if it intervenes in his ongoing dispute with Excel Entertainment, reported Mid-Day. The warning comes after IMPPA's recent meeting on August 18, where Singh's legal team submitted a letter urging the body not to interfere in the matter. This is reportedly not the first time Singh has urged IMPPA to dismiss the complaint filed by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani.

Legal proceedings

Singh's legal team argues matter should be settled in court

Singh's legal team has argued that Excel Entertainment had no grounds to complain and that the matter should be settled in court.

The actor's team also clarified that he did not have a formal agreement with Excel but only a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

They submitted a formal defense against the ₹45 crore damage claim made by Akhtar and Sidhwani after Singh exited Don 3 in December 2025.

Excel maintains Singh abruptly quitting the venture has hurt them financially.

Meeting details

Some members of IMPPA feel Singh should be held accountable

IMPPA had scheduled its first meeting on August 14 after Akhtar and Sidhwani approached them seeking ₹45 crore in damages over Singh's exit from Don 3.

However, the meeting was postponed after Singh's legal team sent their letter.

When Singh's father Jagjit Singh Bhavnani arrived at the meeting, he was informed about the postponement.

The report also suggested that some members of IMPPA feel Singh should be held accountable for his last-minute exit from the film.

Meanwhile, on the work front for Singh

Before IMPPA, Excel has approached the Producers Guild and the Federation of Western India Cine Employees with this dispute.

Meanwhile, Singh has been on a professional high. His recent film Dhurandhar: The Revenge has emerged as the biggest blockbuster of 2026 so far.

He is now shooting for Pralay, directed by Jai Mehta. Interestingly, he is producing this movie as well. He will be seen sharing screen space with Kalyani Priyadarshan.
