Rapper Akon to launch his own cryptocurrency 'AKoin'
Grammy-nominated artist Akon has announced that he is coming up with his own cryptocurrency which will be called AKoin. The 'Smack That' singer is actually planning to build a futuristic city in Senegal and wants AKoin to be its currency. As per a website, the city has been named as Akon Crypto City.
Akon Crypto City has been described as real-life Wakanda
Unveiling his ambitious project at a creative festival in Cannes, Akon stated that he wants to build a real-life version of Marvel's Black Panther's fictional high-tech country Wakanda. Akon Crypto City will be developed on 2,000 acres of land located near Senegal's capital city of Dakar. "It will be just five minutes from the new international airport," he said.
Akon hopes to bring about positive change with his endeavor
"I think that blockchain and crypto could be the savior for Africa in many ways because it brings the power back to the people and brings the security back into the currency system. People won't be pressed down by the government anymore," Akon said.
