'Mumbai Saga' will probably get a theatrical release, hints director

    What's the story

Filmmaker Sanjay Gupta has said that his upcoming movie Mumbai Saga is meant for the "big screen experience," thereby hinting at a plausible theatrical outing for the ambitious gangster drama.

Earlier, as uncertainty over the future of theaters persisted amid the coronavirus pandemic-induced lockdown, reports had suggested that like many other star-studded projects, Mumbai Saga's makers were also considering a digital release.

    Here's more.

    Details

We are in the thick of final edits: Gupta

Gupta recently tweeted that his team is currently handling the film's post-production.

"We are in the thick of final edits - VFX, BGM, SFX, DI Grading and final sound mixing. Everyday with every moment my team and I feel only one common emotion...Mumbai Saga belongs to the theaters (sic)," the director wrote.

"It has been solely and single-heartedly made for big screen experience (sic)."

    Film

'Mumbai Saga' stars John Abraham, Emraan Hashmi, others

Mumbai Saga was originally planned to be released in June this year. However, the ongoing health crisis affected that schedule.

Co-produced by T-Series, the movie is set in the 1980s and 1990s in Mumbai.

It features an ensemble cast, that includes stars like John Abraham, Emraan Hashmi, Suniel Shetty, Prateik Babbar, Rohit Roy, Gulshan Grover, Mahesh Manjrekar and Kajal Aggarwal.

    Situation

Theaters were allowed to reopen last month

As the COVID-19 pandemic started spreading in India earlier this year, many businesses including cinema halls were closed down as a precautionary measure.

In the following months, several big-ticket movies such as Amitabh Bachchan-starrer Gulabo Sitabo, Vidya Balan's Shakuntala Devi and Akshay Kumar-led Laxmii were given a digital release by their producers.

Theaters in many states across India were allowed to reopen last month.
