Shang-Chi rises again...but as a Zombie? 'Marvel Zombie' drops first-look
Marvel has released a first look at its upcoming animated series, Marvel Zombies, featuring the return of Shang-Chi. The character was last seen in his solo film three years ago. The new series will also include other characters from the Shang-Chi movie and various Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) heroes. The show is set to premiere on Disney+, although a release date has not been announced yet.
Shang-Chi battles zombie hordes in 'Marvel Zombies'
In the first-look footage of Marvel Zombies, Shang-Chi is seen fighting zombie hordes alongside his father, Wenwu, also known as The Mandarin. A key scene shows Wenwu sacrificing himself after Shang-Chi is bitten by a zombie. However, Shang-Chi is saved by the Ten Rings before the story jumps five years into a post-apocalyptic future. Here, Shang-Chi and Katy are seen battling a Skrull biker gang.
Main characters and animation style revealed
The main characters of Marvel Zombies are confirmed to be Shang-Chi, Katy, and Jimmy Woo. Notably, Shang-Chi is seen with a zombified arm protected by the Rings. The series also marks the return of Death Dealer—a high-ranking warrior who died in the original Shang-Chi film. The animation style of Marvel Zombies will be similar to that of What If...?, which had its own zombie episode in its first season.

Shang-Chi to return in 'What If...?' Season 3
In addition to Marvel Zombies, Marvel Animation confirmed that Shang-Chi would also return in What If...? Season 3. Simu Liu will reprise his role as the voice of Shang-Chi alongside new characters such as Oscar Isaac's Moon Knight and Dominique Thorne's Ironheart. Details about Shang-Chi's role in the upcoming season remain unclear, but the footage teased an episode where Moon Knight controls an Iron-Man-style mech suit.
No update on Shang-Chi's return to live-action project
Despite Shang-Chi's return to two animated projects, there has been no update on his return to a live-action project. Marvel has not confirmed that Shang-Chi 2 is in development. If no announcement is made soon, Shang-Chi's next appearance could be in Avengers: Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars. The character has already interacted with Avengers members, and fans are eager to see how the Ten Rings factor into the Multiverse Saga following the post-credit tease in Shang-Chi.
