Shilpa Shetty's deepfake videos banned online by court
Shilpa Shetty secured an interim takedown order recently. The Bombay High Court has ordered social media and other platforms to take down fake, AI-generated content using her photos without permission.
Shetty had called out more than 30 platforms for letting people use her face in deepfake and morphed videos.
Judges raised concerns about AI tools that allow such misuse
The court said these kinds of digital impersonations cause real harm, especially to women, and shouldn't be allowed online.
As Shetty's lawyer Sana Raees Khan put it, the ruling sends a strong message: "The internet cannot become a playground for deepfakes and digital impersonation."
Judges also raised concerns about AI tools that let users mimic celebrities without consent.
Other actors have also taken legal action
Shetty isn't alone here. Actors NTR Jr. and R. Madhavan have also approached courts seeking protection against unauthorized deepfakes, showing India's courts want tech companies to act fast on this issue.
