Film details
Parodying popular sci-fi franchises like the original film
Like the 1987 original, the Spaceballs sequel will also parody popular sci-fi franchises such as Star Wars, Star Trek, and Alien. Brooks, a Hollywood comedy legend and EGOT winner, will reprise his role as Yogurt. The plot details of the sequel are being kept under wraps.
Franchise expansion
Announcement video and cheeky synopsis
The sequel was announced last summer in a video by Brooks. It humorously noted the proliferation of Star Wars-related content since the original Spaceballs's release, including prequels, sequels, TV spinoffs, and more. The video also mentioned other franchises like Jurassic Park, Avatar, and Harry Potter. Amazon MGM's cheeky synopsis hints that "the title is rumored to be the name of the movie and plot details are being described as information about what happens in the story."
