Sri Sri Ravi Shankar criticizes Bollywood's immorality
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, founder of the Art of Living, took a dig at Bollywood for what he called its negative impact on society. In a 2013 speech, he described the film industry as a "haven" for drugs and alcohol, and criticized actors for charging huge fees and showing temples and ashrams in a bad light.
How many temples have you seen in movies?
Ravi Shankar said Bollywood often makes religious people look like villains: "Anybody wearing a tilak is a villain, and anyone with a little pony has to be the bad guy." He feels these portrayals push young people away from religion and make them susceptible to drugs, alcohol, and cigarettes.
'Actors make crores just by sneezing...'
Known globally for promoting meditation and peace, Ravi Shankar has made headlines before with his blunt takes on pop culture. He's joked about actors making crores "just by sneezing in front of the camera," and regularly calls out what he sees as exploitation or negative stereotypes in entertainment.
