What's the story

Sunny Deol, who is basking in the success of Gadar: The Katha Continues (2023) and Jaat (2025), will soon headline a Hanuman-centric musical film. The project, described as a "mythological-pop opera with thunderous action," is being fast-tracked by Namit Malhotra, producer and CEO of Double Negative, reported Mid-Day. It will reportedly be the second major entry in the Ramayan Universe (R-Verse).

Project initiation

Deol's involvement in 'Ramayana' sparked interest for standalone film

The idea of a standalone film on Hanuman was sparked by Deol's involvement in Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana. A source close to the development said, "The moment they saw the initial writing of Hanuman's sequences in Ramayana, the team knew he needed his own stage." "And Sunny paaji's name kept coming up because who else could play it better than him, as he is also part of the original."

Film details

'Avengers-styled interconnected storylines' planned for film

The makers of the film are reportedly planning to blend legend, music, high-octane set pieces, and aerial combat, with a 12-minute song described as a battle hymn. The source added that the makers plan to have "Avengers-styled interconnected storylines with recurring characters and crossovers. Hanuman is their Hulk: unstoppable, beloved and built for spectacle." If things fall into place, the musical may roll into production by late next year.

Career trajectory

Deol's upcoming projects

Meanwhile, Deol has a slew of projects lined up. He will be seen in Border 2, Gabru, and Ramayana: Part I & II, releasing on Diwali 2026 and Diwali 2027. He is also part of Rajkumar Santoshi's period drama Lahore 1947 and the Hindi remake of Joseph (2018), titled Soorya. Additionally, he is working on Baap, an action ensemble film with veteran stars, Jaat 2 (sequel to Jaat), and Coal King (in discussions with director Anil Sharma).
