'Amri': Tabu to make cameo in Amrita Sher-Gil biopic?

Acclaimed filmmaker Mira Nair is in talks with actor Tabu for an extended cameo in her upcoming biopic on artist Amrita Sher-Gil, reported Mid-Day. The film, tentatively titled Amri, will be a reunion of the two after their previous collaborations on The Namesake (2006) and A Suitable Boy (2020). The biopic has been in development since 2020 and is set between 1915 and 1941 across India, Hungary, and France.

Cast to be locked by December
The casting for Amri is reportedly scaling up with more than 15 actors from the Hindi film industry expected to star in it. The ensemble cast will be locked by December, with Nair planning to start filming by March 2026. Tanya Maniktala, who was rumored to play the titular role, has denied reports of her involvement in the project.
