V Ponraj asks Madras High Court to quash FIR
Political commentator V Ponraj has asked the Madras High Court to cancel an FIR filed on a complaint lodged by R Nirmalkumar, who later became Tamil Nadu Minister for Energy Resources and Law, in his capacity as the joint general secretary of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), who accused him of making derogatory remarks about women during a YouTube interview.
The complaint dates back to March 2026, when Nirmalkumar lodged it in his capacity as the joint general secretary of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), and the FIR was officially lodged in May 2026.
V Ponraj calls FIR political payback
Ponraj says the video was already taken down before the FIR was filed and argues that the case is just political payback meant to silence his views.
He also feels that responsibility for publishing should fall on the YouTube channel itself, not him.
The court will hear more on June 17, 2026.
