A 'Chhaava' sequel is happening? Vicky Kaushal-Laxman Utekar to reunite

Actor Vicky Kaushal and director Laxman Utekar are reportedly planning to collaborate on a historical biopic. This comes after their successful partnership on Chhaava (2025), which was based on the life of Sambhaji Maharaj. A source close to the development told ETimes that the sequel will focus on Shahu Maharaj, Sambhaji's son.

The source added, "While Chhaava was based on the life of Sambhaji Maharaj, this one is going to be based on his son, Shahu Maharaj." The film is expected to go into production next year or in early 2028. Currently, Utekar is busy with Eetha, starring Shraddha Kapoor. He will reportedly begin work on the yet-to-be-titled sequel after completing this project.

Meanwhile, Kaushal is currently busy with Love and War and will soon start shooting for Mahavatar, a film based on Lord Parshuram. When contacted by ETimes, both Kaushal and Utekar were unavailable for comment. Chhaava, which was released in 2025, told the story of Maratha king Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj and his war against Mughal emperor Aurangzeb. It had collected ₹807cr worldwide.
