Actor Vijay Sethupathi has joined the cast of director Vetri Maaran's upcoming movie, Arasan. The movie, which stars Silambarasan TR in the lead role, is set in the Vada Chennai universe. Producer Kalaipuli S Thanu confirmed Sethupathi's addition to the cast with a special poster on Tuesday. The poster read, "Welcome on board Makkal Selvan Vijay Sethupathi."

'Arasan' is not a sequel to 'Vada Chennai'

Earlier in June, Maaran had clarified that Arasan is part of the Vada Chennai universe but not a sequel to his hit film starring Dhanush. The film began shooting a few weeks ago and is progressing quickly. Produced by Thanu under V Creations, Arasan has music by Anirudh Ravichander. The movie's promo, released last month, was well received by fans and raised their expectations further.
