Why Abhishek Bachchan turned down ₹43cr for 'Paa'

Entertainment

Abhishek Bachchan shared that he rejected a massive ₹43 crore profit offer for his 2009 film Paa, which starred Amitabh Bachchan as a child with progeria.
He produced the film under AB Corp with a modest budget, even though a corporate company offered to buy the film for ₹60 crore, which would have netted him a ₹43 crore profit.

Why did Abhishek say no?

Abhishek explained he couldn't take the deal because he understood what the film could actually earn.
As he put it, "Whatever profits we earn from it, I'd pay that to you."

How did 'Paa' do after all this?

Turns out, Abhishek's instincts were spot on—Paa became both a commercial hit and won critical praise.
It made over ₹45 crore worldwide and bagged National Awards for Best Actor (Amitabh) and Best Feature Film in Hindi (Abhishek).

Why was this moment important for AB Corp?

For AB Corp (previously ABCL), Paa was more than just another movie—it marked their comeback after bankruptcy in 1999.
Thanks to Amitabh's TV return with Kaun Banega Crorepati and Paa's success, the company finally got back on track.
