₹65L fraud case: Yash's mother files complaint against film promoter
What's the story
Pushpalatha, the mother of popular Kannada actor Yash, has filed a police complaint against film promoter Harish Arasu. The complaint alleges that she was cheated out of nearly ₹65L in connection with the promotion of her debut production Kothalavadi. She claimed that the funds were misused and that she faced threats and intimidation when she raised concerns about these financial transactions.
Legal proceedings
Complaint seeks legal action against Arasu and others
The complaint, filed at the High Grounds police station in Bengaluru on Wednesday, seeks legal action against Arasu and others for alleged cheating and criminal conspiracy. An FIR has been registered based on this complaint. The producer stated that she had entrusted Arasu with promoting her film, which was shot between May 24 and mid-July across various locations including Talakadu, Gundlupet, Mysuru, and Chamarajanagar. Initially, both parties agreed on a promotion fee of ₹23 lakh.
Allegations
Pushpa alleges Arasu collected additional funds using film's brand name
Pushpa claimed that Arasu later collected an additional ₹24 lakh through various channels using the film's brand name. In total, she alleged that Arasu took ₹64,87,700 from her, including ₹4L in cash on July 31 for print media advertising. Despite this, Pushpa stated that no promotion was carried out for the film, which was scheduled to release on August 1.
Financial impact
Arasu failed to promote film
Pushpa claimed that the lead actor had to spend ₹21,75,000 from his own pocket as Arasu failed to execute the promotional work. She also alleged that several social media and film media promoters were not paid. When she questioned him about this, Pushpa alleged that Arasu threatened her and demanded back ₹27L.
Defamation claims
Pushpa alleges negative publicity and threats from Arasu
Pushpa further claimed that she found no promotional material for the film on August 1 and later learned that Arasu had been spreading negative publicity. She also accused him of threatening to post defamatory comments about her on social media and to come to her house and create a disturbance.
Threatening calls
Pushpa and director received threatening phone calls
On August 15, Pushpa and the film's director, Shriraj Ravari, allegedly received threatening phone calls from Arasu, Manu, Nitin, and other unidentified persons. Through her complaint, she has requested legal action against Arasu, Manu, Nitin, Mahesh Guru, and Swarnalatha (Rannayak) for "cheating, intimidation, defamation, and criminal conspiracy." Kothalavadi starred Pruthvi Ambaar and Kavya Shaiva.
