After 'Gully Boy', it's a gangster-drama for Ranveer and Zoya?

Zoya Akhtar has all the reasons to celebrate these days. After all, her last directorial, Gully Boy, starring Ranveer Singh has been chosen as India's official entry for Oscars 2020. Given this magnificent feat, looks like Zoya is willing to recreate her magic with Ranveer on the big screen. According to media reports, the actor-director duo will soon be collaborating for a gangster drama.

Ranveer "has verbally given his nod," says a source

As per a Pinkvilla report, Zoya is currently working on the script of the gangster flick. And, she has already proposed the idea to Ranveer, who's "really keen on doing it as well." "He has verbally given his nod," a source was quoted as saying. If things work out, this will be Ranveer's third project with Zoya after Dil Dhadakne Do and Gully Boy.

Zoya accused of making "elitist movies" till 'Gully Boy' happened

To note, Zoya has always been criticized for making "elitist movies" like Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, Luck By Chance, etc. However, she proved her critics wrong by making Gully Boy, which chronicled the story of a street rapper hailing from Mumbai slums, and making it big in music world. "Now, she's writing another script in a similar space and milieu," the source added.

Zoya, Ranveer "are currently figuring out dates" for the movie

As of now, Zoya and Ranveer "are currently figuring out dates from which they can go on floors with the gangster saga." That's because the actor has many films in the pipeline. "Ranveer is currently wrapping up Kabir Khan's 83 and also has YRF's Jayeshbhai Jordaar lined up. He has to kickstart Karan Johar's Takht from February next year as well," said the source.

The director is working on her digital series, 'Ghost Stories'

For now, Zoya is working on her upcoming digital series, Ghost Stories, which is an anthology in the horror genre. Notably, this will be the ace filmmaker's first attempt at this genre, and she is already ready with the script. According to media reports, the series will star Janhvi Kapoor in the lead, and this will mark her debut on the digital platform.
