24 long-distance trains canceled in Bihar due to dense fog
Traveling by train in Bihar this winter just got tougher—East Central Railway is canceling 24 major long-distance trains from December 1, 2025, to February 28, 2026, because of thick fog and low visibility.
Big names like the Prayagraj-Muzaffarpur Express and Howrah-Dehradun Upasana Express are on the list, with several other routes running less often or being shortened.
Why does this matter?
About 4.5 million passengers will feel the pinch, especially at busy stations like Patna and Muzaffarpur.
With fewer trains, flight prices have shot up (think: Patna-Delhi tickets jumping from ₹9k to ₹25k!), and even bus fares have doubled or tripled.
ECR says these changes are all about keeping travelers safe until the weather clears up—even if it means some serious travel headaches for now.
What's causing all this chaos?
The Indian Meteorological Department is predicting dense fog with visibility dropping to just 50 meters in some areas, plus chilly temps as low as 4°C.
To avoid accidents on crowded rail lines, ECR is taking no chances during these tough winter months.
