Air India crash probe faces delays

The probe into the tragic Air India crash in Ahmedabad, which took 274 lives, is stuck because no official lead investigator has been named yet.
The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) is supposed to handle things, but without a formal appointment, crucial evidence like flight data recorders remains out of reach—something that goes against international safety rules.

TL;DR

AAIB still in charge of investigation

Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu says AAIB is still leading the investigation into the June 12 Boeing 787 crash. But compared to how quickly things moved after the 2020 Calicut crash, this delay stands out.
A Parliamentary Committee has also flagged worries about AAIB's limited funding and independence.
Meanwhile, a separate committee led by Union home secretary Govind Mohan will suggest new safety measures, but AAIB stays in charge of the main probe for now.
