Air India flew 8 times without key safety certificate

India

Air India just revealed it ran eight flights between New Delhi, Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Hyderabad on November 24 and 25 without a required safety certificate for one of its Airbus A320s.
This certificate, called the Airworthiness Review Certificate (ARC), is issued annually by the regulator after a plane passes safety and compliance checks.
An internal review wrapped up on December 6 found big gaps in how the airline handles safety checks and communication.

What went wrong, and what happens now?

The investigation showed not only was the ARC missing, but there was also no special permit after engine replacements—both major oversights.
Air India has suspended those involved and says it's working to fix its compliance systems.
The aviation regulator (DGCA) has grounded the plane and started its own probe.
If found at fault, Air India could face fines up to ₹10 million (about $111,000).
