Ajay Bhushan Pandey: News
Ajay Bhushan Pandey is an IAS officer of the 1984 batch of Maharashtra cadre who held various positions in the central and the Maharashtra government. Known for bringing some of the major tax reforms in India, he served as the finance secretary between March 2020 and February 2021. Between 2018 and 2019, he served as the revenue secretary, where he handled two tax boards-- the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) and the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), along with the Enforcement Directorate. He was inducted as the CEO of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), from 2016 to 2019. Under his leadership, biometric-based identification was introduced in UIDAI. He was a key member for drafting the Aadhar Act in 2016. Between 2018 and 2019 he was also the chairman of the Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN). He also held some of the key positions in the state government. He served as the Managing Director of the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company, as the principal secretary to the chief minister, and as the Deputy Commissioner (Sales Tax) under the Maharashtra government. He holds a BE from IIT Kanpur and has pursued MS and Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota.
