Amarnath Yatra sees 10% drop in registration post Pahalgam attack
After a tragic terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22 that took 26 lives, sign-ups for the 2025 Amarnath Yatra have dropped by over 10%.
The pilgrimage, set for July 3 to August 9, had about 2.36 lakh people registered before the incident.
Security has been tightened at base camps
Security has been tightened with extra police and armed forces at base camps.
There's now a three-layer security system, regular mock drills, and more area checks.
The Shrine Board also asked pilgrims who signed up before April 22 to reconfirm—over 85,000 have said they're still going, showing some renewed confidence.
Main route widened from 4 to 12 feet
The main route has been widened from four to 12 feet and reinforced with barriers where needed.
Only emergency vehicles can use the road near the cave now, and helicopter rides are off this year due to safety worries and low interest.
Pilgrims are advised to stick with official convoys from Bhagwati Nagar base camp for safer travel.
