Amit Shah announces Delhi slum policy to benefit 4L families
Delhi is getting a major housing upgrade for its slum residents.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah just announced the Delhi Slum and JJ Cluster Rehabilitation and Relocation Policy, 2026, which will replace the old 2015 rules and will benefit four lakh families.
Shah has directed the Delhi Development Authority and the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board to issue tenders for the rehabilitation of five jhuggi-jhopri (JJ) clusters within 45 days and asked the Delhi government to notify it at the earliest.
Relocation eligibility for JJ residents
The big update: if you've been living in a JJ cluster as of January 1, 2025, you're eligible for relocation.
Families will move to improved colonies with schools, health centers, and anganwadi centers right in their neighborhood.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah also pushed for at least five rehabilitation projects every month under public-private partnerships and called for tenders on another 50 clusters, so expect more action soon.
The goal is simple: better homes and a better quality of life for Delhi's slum dwellers.
