Amnesty says Delhi police used excessive force in NET-UG protests
Amnesty International says Delhi police went overboard during the July 20 protests in New Delhi against the NET-UG paper leak.
Amnesty also says it verified abuses in Bihar's Siwan district.
Thousands marched toward Parliament; things got tense, and clashes broke out, leading to Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan stepping down.
On August 24, Amnesty shared evidence showing police used pellet guns, tear gas, grenades, batons, and even electric shock devices on protesters.
Amnesty alleges lethal force in Siwan
Amnesty disputes police claims that force was only used after things turned violent.
They called it "state-sanctioned violence," reporting two incidents in Siwan where police allegedly used lethal force (though no deaths happened).
The Supreme Court has now set up a panel to look into what really went down between police and protesters.
Rahul Gandhi joins pellet injured protester
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi joined a sit-in with a 19-year-old protester who said he was injured by police pellets during the demonstration.
After the 19-year-old protester filed a complaint, authorities registered a case.
The protests were youth-led, with demonstrations in New Delhi and Bihar.
