Andhra Pradesh bets big on electric air taxis with ₹1,300cr deal

India

Andhra Pradesh just signed a massive ₹1,300 crore MoU with Sarla Aviation to build a "Sky Factory" in Anantapur.
Spanning 500 acres, this place aims to roll out up to 1,000 electric air taxis every year—think flying cars for city commutes.
The project kicks off with R&D and production lines on 150 acres as part of the state's push toward futuristic transport.

What's special about the Sky Factory?

The factory is part of Andhra's Swarna Andhra @2047 vision and will tap into Bengaluru's tech scene. It'll train pilots and run simulation labs too.
Leading the charge is Sarla Aviation's six-seater Shunya model, aiming to put India on the map for sustainable aviation—even though things like affordability and landing infrastructure are still hurdles.
If all goes well, commercial flights could take off by 2029, putting India right up there with global players in urban air mobility.
