What's the story

Punjab Kings pacer Arshdeep Singh had a forgettable outing in their IPL 2026 opener against Gujarat Titans on March 31. The left-arm bowler's struggle with wides resurfaced as he bowled an 11-ball over, matching an unwanted IPL record. He went wicketless in his four-over spell, conceding a whopping 42 runs. However, PBKS chased down 163 with Cooper Connolly's unbeaten knock.

RecordĀ

An over to forget for Arshdeep

Arshdeep's last over of the innings was a nightmare, stretching to 11 balls. It included four wides and a no-ball. He conceded 12 runs in that over, which took GT to 162/6. According to Cricbuzz, Arshdeep bowled the joint-most balls in an over in the IPL, joining Mohammed Siraj (vs MI, 2023), Tushar Deshpande (vs LSG, 2023), Shardul Thakur (vs KKR, 2025), Sandeep Sharma (vs DC, 2025), and Hardik Pandya (vs GT, 2025).

Past performance

Arshdeep's struggle with control

This wasn't the first instance of Arshdeep bowling such a long over in T20 cricket. In December last year, Arshdeep bowled 13 balls in an over during India's 2nd T20I against South Africa. The over included seven wides. The over produced 18 runs and an animated reaction from Team India's head coach, Gautam Gambhir, in the dugout.

How the match panned out

Nevertheless, Punjab Kings started their 2026 IPL campaign with a thrilling win over GT in Mullanpur. The team accomplished the 163-run target thanks to a brilliant half-century from debutant Cooper Connolly. He smashed a 44-ball 72* and saved the Kings from a potential collapse. Earlier, PBKS were briefly derailed by a three-fer from Prasidh Krishna.
