Gautam Gambhir: News
A short left-hander from Delhi who was once described by Virendar Sehwag as the best opener in Tests for India since Sunil Gavaskar. Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir was a complete batsman when he was on song. When he wasn't, however, his flaws became evident, and he became a walking wicket. Gambhir began his first-class career in the 1999-2000 season. After his stunning double-century for Board President's XI against Zimbabwe in 2002, he made his international debut in an ODI against Bangladesh in 2003. A year later, against Australia, he made his Test debut as well. However, Gambhir's front foot fallacy led to him not being selected for the 2007 World Cup. He made it back to the team for the 2007 T20I championship. After scoring a match-winning knock in the final, the period from 2008-11 saw him becoming one of the best batsmen in the world across all three formats. During the said period, Gambhir became the only Indian to score centuries in five consecutive Tests. In 2009, he won the ICC Test Player of the Year award. His journey culminated in him playing another match-winning knock in the 2011 World Cup final. Gambhir retired in 2018, and later joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 2019.
