Morne Morkel: News

Standing tall at 1.96 meters, Morne Morkel was a fast bowling phenom in his prime. Pace, bounce, accuracy, and even some reverse swing when needed, he had it all. The fact that he became the most successful in a family of cricketers, including his brother Albie Morkel is a cherry on the top. Morkel made his first-class debut for the Easterns in the 2004 season. His international entry was fast-tracked as South Africa approached the end of the Pollock and Ntini era. Morkel made his international debut in a Test match against India in 2006. Morkel, along with Steyn and Philander was the world’s best bowling attack. Morkel’s ability to generate awkward bounce by hitting the deck hard even on the flattest of tracks made him a threat anywhere. He has the distinction of being on the list of top 10 bowlers in the world in all three formats of the game at some point in his career. Morkel has had great success in the IPL as well. He finished the 2012 season with the purple cap. In 2018, he called it quits from international cricket.
