Andhra temple sealed after stampede kills 9 during Karthika Ekadashi

India

A tragic stampede at Sri Venkateswara Swamy temple in Andhra Pradesh took nine lives during the Karthika Ekadashi event on Saturday.
With over 20,000 people packed in, the privately-run temple didn't have the needed safety clearances or permissions, so authorities have now sealed it.

SIT probing incident; founder under house arrest

An iron railing gave way on a narrow staircase, sparking chaos. Organizers hadn't worked with police for crowd control, which made things worse.
A Special Investigation Team is looking into what happened, and the 94-year-old temple founder is under house arrest as part of the probe.
Thankfully, two people who were seriously hurt are now stable.
