Andhra's south coastal region sees some respite from heavy rains

India

After days of downpours, Andhra Pradesh's South Coastal region is seeing some relief.
Even though a red alert was out for districts like NTR, Guntur, Krishna, Bapatla, and Palnadu, Thursday's rainfall was much lighter than expected—Srungavarapukota saw the highest at just 52mm.

State has received more rain than usual

In the 24 hours leading up to Thursday morning, places like Tanuku got drenched with up to 240mm of rain.
Overall, the state has already received more rain than usual for this time of year—338.2mm since June 1.
The IMD says we're not totally in the clear yet: thunderstorms and gusty winds could return through August 19 as a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal keeps stirring things up.
