Liquor shop ransacked after protests in Bundelkhand

What's the story

A group of women and youth who were protesting against a liquor store in their neighbourhood in Bundelkhand, resorted to ransacking the shop when their demands to relocate it were not met. A local MLA stated that the owner of the shop had allegedly promised to relocate, but failed to do so. Meanwhile, a complaint is yet to be registered with the police.

Rise of anti-alcohol protests in the region?

This is not the only anti-alcohol protest that is ongoing in Bundelkhand. Residents of Rajakhedi village led by BJP MLA Pradeep Lariya, protested to relocate a liquor shop that was in their village. Women from Pathariya Jat village recently demanded that alcohol shops be located far away from residences. Residents of Satai Road in Chhatarpur even blocked a road in protest against liquor shops.

In several of these instances it was women of the villages that led the cause to curb alcoholism. In most cases authorities were forced to intervene before the situation turned violent.
