Assam: Retired principal held for comments on Red Fort blast

India

Nazrul Islam Barbhuiyan, a retired school principal from Assam's Cachar district, was detained after he posted comments about the deadly November 10, 2025 Red Fort blast on social media.
The explosion killed more than a dozen people and injured over 20.
Police say his post tried to politicize what they call a sensitive national security issue.

Police probe underway to ascertain details

After Barbhuiyan's remarks surfaced, police quickly took notice and called him in for questioning to understand his intentions.
According to senior police official Partha Protim Das, Barbhuiyan was interrogated at two locations in Silchar.
Authorities are now checking if his comments could spread misinformation or fuel unrest while the investigation into the blast continues.
Social media posts about the incident are under close watch across Assam following orders from the state's chief minister.
