Bengal governor Bose resigns, Mamata reacts: 'Blow to federal values'
CV Ananda Bose has stepped down as West Bengal's governor, just over a month before the state's 2026 assembly elections.
He had been in office since November 2022, and his sudden exit comes after more than three years on the job.
Mamata reacts
Bose's resignation caught many off guard, especially Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
She said she would not be surprised if the Governor had been subjected to pressure from Union Home Minister Amit Shah to serve political interests and said she was not consulted about the appointment, calling it a blow to federal values.
Bose and the Trinamool Congress government often clashed over university appointments, law and order, and approval of bills.
Tamil Nadu governor to take over
Tamil Nadu governor R N Ravi is stepping in as West Bengal's acting governor for now.
Ravi brings experience from his time as a public-security official and deputy national security adviser, so he will be juggling responsibilities in both states until a permanent replacement is named.
