Bengal poll officer dies in road accident; state steps in to help family

India

Lalit Adhikari, a primary school teacher and Booth Level Officer working on voter roll updates in Cooch Behar, West Bengal, tragically lost his life in a road accident while heading home from duty.
Despite quick medical help, he didn't survive—leaving behind his wife and two sons who depended on him.

State support and job promise for the family

The West Bengal government has given Adhikari's family ₹2 lakh as compensation.
Minister Udayan Guha personally visited them to offer condolences and deliver the cheque on behalf of CM Mamata Banerjee.
He also promised that the state would seriously consider their request for a job for one of Adhikari's sons, recognizing how much the loss means to the family.
