Bengaluru teacher accused of slapping student, causing ear injury

India

An 11-year-old boy at a private school in Bengaluru was allegedly slapped twice by his English teacher after he accidentally hurt himself with a paper cutter during English class while working on an arts and crafts project.
The incident left him with an internal ear injury and bleeding in his mouth.
The teacher attempted to seize the cutter, and the boy refused, which led to the slapping.

What happened next

After the slap, the boy was taken to a coordinator who scolded him, and his father was told he'd hurt other students—he wasn't allowed to leave school right away.
His mother later filed a police complaint, naming the teacher, principal, and coordinator for how they handled things. A medical exam confirmed the injuries.
Police have registered a case under child protection laws while further action is pending.
This comes just after another recent case of student assault by a teacher in Bengaluru, raising concerns about safety in schools.
