Things got tense in Bhatkal, Karnataka, after right-wing activists stopped a car carrying a 21-year-old Muslim man and a Hindu woman.
The activists questioned them, allegedly assaulted the man (Shaheed), and handed him to police, while the woman was sent home.
Police filed an FIR against the activists for assault.
Woman accuses Shaheed of attempted abduction
The next day, the woman accused Shaheed of trying to abduct her, so now there is also a case against him.
Both are adults and coworkers at a local supermarket; he was just dropping her home after work, according to reports.
The incident led to late-night protests by Hindu groups demanding charges be dropped against the activists. As tensions remain high.
