BSF jawan accidentally kills Bangladeshi smuggler during border clash

India

A tense moment at the India-Bangladesh border turned tragic on Saturday when a BSF jawan accidentally shot and killed a Bangladeshi smuggler in West Bengal's Nadia district.
The incident happened during a scuffle between the BSF jawan and Bangladeshi smugglers, with a jawan of the 32nd battalion of the BSF getting caught in the chaos.

What went down

It all started when a BSF jawan spotted Indian smugglers passing plastic bundles to their Bangladeshi partners across the fence.
As soon as they saw the jawan, the Indian group ran off, but some Bangladeshi smugglers crossed into India and attacked him with sharp weapons.
In the struggle, a shot was fired by accident, critically injuring one of them—he was declared dead at Krishnaganj Hospital.
Afterwards, officials recovered cough syrup bottles, liquor, and tools from the scene. Police are now investigating as part of efforts to stop cross-border smuggling.
