Budget 2026: Seven new high-speed rail lines coming up
Big news from the Budget 2026-27: India is about to get seven new high-speed rail lines, covering almost 4,000km and connecting cities like Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Varanasi, and Siliguri.
The investment? A massive ₹16 lakh crore.
If you've ever wished cross-country travel was faster (and less of a headache), this is for you.
Say goodbye to long train journeys
Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw says these new trains will seriously cut down your time on the tracks—for example, Chennai to Bengaluru is projected at 1 hour 13 minutes to around 1 hour 30 minutes instead of six.
Other routes like Hyderabad-Bengaluru and Hyderabad-Chennai will also be much quicker.
With trains designed for up to 350km/h and expected to operate around 320km/h on smooth elevated tracks, long journeys might finally feel short.
Lines will connect major tech hubs, tourist spots
Final surveys are underway for some routes like Hyderabad-Bengaluru and Hyderabad-Chennai.
These lines aren't just about speed—they'll connect major tech hubs and tourist spots while being built with green infrastructure in mind.
So yes: faster trips with a smaller carbon footprint are actually on the horizon.
