Can you sell non-veg food near temples? Telangana HC's order
The Telangana High Court has told the state government to set clear rules—within four weeks—about selling non-veg food within 100 meters of temples, schools, and hospitals.
This follows a case where a businessman's restaurant near a Hanuman temple in Hyderabad was subject to alleged interference by GHMC officials and local police, who allegedly detained a worker and cited a prior High Court judgment, despite the petitioner having obtained a trade license and a Food Safety and Standards Authority of India registration.
Restaurants in sensitive spots will need NOC from local police
The court noticed there aren't any specific laws for selling non-veg food near places of worship.
Now, the government has been asked to create guidelines that respect religious sentiments and public order.
Under these new rules, restaurants in sensitive spots will need a No Objection Certificate from local police before opening up.
