CBI investigates Wayanad tribal youth's custodial death
The CBI is now investigating the death of 18-year-old Gokul, a tribal youth who was found dead in a Wayanad police station washroom on April 1.
Gokul had been arrested just a day earlier for allegedly being involved with a missing minor girl from his village—a relationship that had already sparked inter-tribal tensions.
While police initially called it suicide, questions popped up about how he was left unsupervised and why his family wasn't kept in the loop.
Two officers suspended as reports are still coming in
After protests and petitions from Gokul's family and activists, the Kerala government handed the case over to the CBI, with investigators now focusing on possible lapses by local police.
The Kerala State Human Rights Commission is also watching closely, having launched its own inquiry into alleged custodial negligence.
