Chennai's public toilets are now officially free—look for the 'No Fee Zone' signs!
Chennai just made it clear: public toilets are free for everyone.
The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) rolled out bold 'No Fee Zone' signs to prevent janitors from charging illegal fees.
Mayor R Priya launched the initiative on World Toilet Day, and you'll start seeing these signs at all GCC-managed toilets across the city.
New ways to keep things clean and fair
To make sure everyone sticks to the rules, janitors will now wear ID badges and every toilet will have door stickers reminding you there's no charge.
The GCC has also handed over toilet management to private firms, who'll handle both upkeep and cleanliness checks for eight years—third-party inspections included.
Plus, QR codes on signboards let you report any problems instantly from your phone, making it easier than ever to help keep Chennai's public toilets clean and accessible for all.
