Chilling crime in UP mirrors Meghalaya murder

India

In Siddharthnagar, Uttar Pradesh, police arrested Sangeeta Devi (35) and her lover Anil Shukla (27) for allegedly murdering Sangeeta's husband, Kannan Kumar (48). The two confessed to giving him poisoned prasad during a temple visit on June 2. When Kumar lost consciousness, they reportedly threw his body off a bridge into the Rapti river.

Conflicting statements raise suspicion

The crime came to light after Sangeeta filed a missing person report but gave conflicting statements that raised family suspicions. Kumar's brother reported the inconsistencies to police, and their son mentioned his mother returned home alone. Phone records placed Sangeeta at the scene with her husband. Under questioning, she admitted they planned the murder because Kumar objected to their relationship. Skeletal remains found in the river were identified by clothing. Both accused are now in jail as the investigation continues.
