'Pay or esle...': Chittorgarh's 'goldman' receives ₹5cr extortion threat

Kanhaiyalal Khatik, a businessman in Rajasthan's Chittorgarh, has alleged that he received an extortion call from people claiming to be associated with gangster Rohit Godara. Khatik, who runs a fruit business and is known for his love of gold jewelry, received the first call two days ago. When he did not answer, the caller left him an audio message, saying he "would not remain in a condition to wear gold" if he didn't pay the ransom of ₹5 crore."

Khatik claimed that he got another phone call later, repeating the same demand. The City Kotwali police station has now registered a formal complaint. Khatik, who is also known as Chittorgarh's "Bappi Lahiri," started his career selling vegetables on a handcart. He later moved into the fruit business and struck gold trading apples. His success in the business made him a gold jewelry enthusiast and he now wears around 3.5kg of gold, earning him the nickname "Goldman" in Chittorgarh.

Rohit Godara, linked to the extortion call to Khatik, is a notorious gangster from Bikaner's Lunakaran. He has more than 32 cases registered against him across different police stations. Godara is also an accused in the high-profile murder of Punjabi rapper Sidhu Moose Wala and the murder of gangster Raju Thehat in Sikar. In June 2022, Godara fled New Delhi for Dubai on a fake passport under the name 'Pawan Kumar.' An Interpol Red Notice has been issued against him.
