Cholera outbreak on India-Myanmar border claims 9 lives
India
A cholera outbreak in southern Mizoram has left six people dead, mostly from Lawngtlai and Siaha districts.
Tests traced the source to Kakichhuah village, where both patients and water samples showed the presence of cholera bacteria.
Village locked down as cases surge
To stop the spread, officials have declared Kakichhuah a containment zone and shut the entry point between Salachhuah in Myanmar and Kakichhuah village for two months.
Out of 90 villagers checked, a staggering 84 showed symptoms—four are currently undergoing treatment.
Why it matters globally
Cholera isn't just a local issue—cases worldwide have shot up this year, especially in places struggling with conflict or poor health systems like Sudan and Myanmar.
It's a reminder that safe water and strong healthcare matter everywhere.
