Congress leaders summoned in Rajat Sharma's defamation case
A Delhi court has called Congress leaders Ragini Nayak, Pawan Khera, and Jairam Ramesh to answer criminal defamation and forgery charges after India TV's Rajat Sharma accused them of sharing a fake video.
The video, related to a live television debate on June 4, 2024, showed Sharma supposedly using abusive language—but forensic checks later proved the captions were added and not part of the original broadcast.
Leaders acted in coordination to harm complainant's reputation: Court
Nayak shared the doctored clip on X (formerly Twitter), with Khera and Ramesh amplifying it by retweeting.
The court found enough evidence under several sections for forgery and defamation, saying their actions seemed coordinated to harm Sharma's reputation.
After the Delhi High Court ordered the post's removal on June 14, 2024, a Saket JMFC now wants all three leaders to appear in person to respond to these allegations.
