Cyclone Ditwah weakens, but rain and rough weather stick around in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry

India

Cyclone Ditwah has lost strength and is now a deep depression moving up the North Tamil Nadu and Puducherry coastlines.
Still, the IMD says to expect heavy rain in places like Chennai, Nagapattinam, Cuddalore, Villupuram, and Puducherry-Karaikal today.
Winds could gust up to 80km/h—so it's definitely not your usual rainy day.

Why bother?

The storm has already led to three deaths in Tamil Nadu from rain-related incidents.
Schools are closed in Puducherry (and were shut earlier in parts of Tamil Nadu), with disaster teams ready just in case things get worse.
Authorities are urging everyone to stay indoors and warning fishermen to avoid the sea because conditions are pretty dangerous right now.
