Delhi: 100 arrested for hacking user-data of online shopping websites

What's the story

The Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (UPSTF) has arrested over 100 fraudsters for hacking user database of leading online shopping websites and insurance companies. The gang made data selling their business and charged Rs 10 per data from call center operators. Further raids and crackdown continue and more arrests expected. UPSTF have appealed companies to provide data breach details.

Context

Over 22,000 Indian websites hacked in 8 months

According to Minister of State (MoS) for Electronics and Information Technology KJ Alphons, a total of 22,207 Indian websites were hacked between April 2017 and January 2018. This list included 114 government portals as well. The information was tracked and reported by the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In), Minister Alphons told the Lok Sabha in a written statement.

Recently a French security researcher Baptiste Robert alias Elliot Alderson has hacked into the Aadhaar app. He was able to bypass the system's password protection protocol within a minute and gain access to 22,000 Aadhaar card details.
