Delhi court denies interim maintenance to woman earning over ₹60,000
A Delhi court recently decided not to grant interim maintenance to a woman earning over ₹60,000 a month, even though her husband claimed that she makes more than ₹1 lakh a month.
The judge explained that financial support isn't automatic just because incomes differ; since the woman is educated and financially independent, she isn't entitled to extra help.
Husband must pay ₹14,000 child support
The court did say the husband must keep paying child support, first set at ₹7,000 a month and bumped up to ₹14,000 a month from February 2021.
Even though he felt it was too much and suggested investing it instead, the judge clarified that child maintenance covers day-to-day needs like school fees and health care.
The court also made it clear that disputes over custody don't affect a child's right to financial support.
