Delhi court dismisses Lipika Mitra's defamation complaint against Nirmala Sitharaman
India
A Delhi court has dismissed a defamation complaint against Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
The case was brought by Lipika Mitra, wife of former AAP MLA Somnath Bharti, who said Sitharaman made hurtful comments about her marriage at a press conference in May.
But the judge found there just was not enough evidence to take things further.
Lipika Mitra sought restrictions on statements
Mitra claimed Sitharaman's remarks were meant to damage Bharti's reputation and chances as an INDIA bloc candidate, saying the comments caused him immense mental anguish and public embarrassment.
She wanted legal action and restrictions on future statements, but the court did not find proof to back up these claims, so the case is now closed.
