Delhi ends site inspections and upfront fees for electricity connections
Big update for anyone moving or setting up a place in Delhi:
Starting April 1, 2026, you won't need a site inspection or have to pay upfront for a new electricity connection.
All you have to do is submit a self-declaration confirming your wiring's been checked by a Licensed Electrical Contractor (LEC).
That's it: no more jumping through hoops.
Connection charges billed on 1st bill
Now, connection charges just show up on your first bill: no hidden fees allowed, since everything has to match DERC's official rates.
If you ever run into issues with your discom, there's a clear path for complaints: start with their Consumer Grievance Redressal Forum (CGRF), and if things aren't sorted, you can escalate it further.
The whole idea is to make the process smoother and protect consumers from hassles.
