Delhi govt to give ₹850 for each LPG cylinder
The Delhi Cabinet, led by CM Rekha Gupta, has greenlit a scheme that gives poor households (those with ration cards) enough cash to cover one LPG cylinder—about ₹850.
The idea? Help out families struggling with kitchen expenses right before Holi, and deliver on a big election promise.
How it works
Instead of dealing with paperwork or waiting in lines, eligible families get the money sent directly to their bank accounts via Direct Benefit Transfer.
An SMS will let them know when it lands, so they can buy their cylinder from their usual distributor.
The scheme covers ration card holders from economically weaker sections (identified poor ration card holders), rather than all ration card holders.
Who will benefit?
This move is set to bring quick relief to lakhs of Delhi households, especially women who handle most of the cooking.
Rolling out from Holi 2026 (with another round planned for Diwali), it's the first major promise delivered by the Gupta government, fulfilling a campaign promise made during the 2025 elections—and could make daily life just a bit easier for those who need it most.
